Meet the Cornerstone Team
Experience: Michael has set up, owned and ran successful businesses for the past 18 years. His major company achievements include reaching Wales Fast Growth 50 for; 3 consecutive years, taking a business from start-up to a Virgin Sunday Times Fast Trust 100 company and helping grow 2 businesses to in excess of £9m of turnover. He believes his greatest success though is employing and mentoring staff. Having employed over 1000 staff across 4 businesses and taking staff from entry level to senior management is what gives him the greatest pleasure.
Interests and hobbies: Michael enjoys many different activities but none more so than spending time with his family. Michael has a wife, 2 children and a dog called Miley. He can be seen regularly out and about walking in the Usk Valley. He also enjoys travelling, meals out, fine wine and is a keen sports enthusiast. Whilst age and injury has got the better of him in recent years he is still an avid follower of Welsh rugby, the Dragons and the greatest football team in London, The Mighty Spurs. Other interests include politics, finance and helping others achieve their financial goals.
Experience: Gareth has in excess of 14 years’ experience in the banking sector having worked predominantly for Barclays across multiple channels from Business Development and Senior National Account Management in the Retail sector followed by a number of years in Performance Management in the world of business banking and International Trade. Having set up other SME business’ in the past Gareth is now doing what he is passionate about running a successful DA, whole of market Brokerage helping clients get access to funding to achieve their personal and professional goals. Interest and hobbies: Gareth’s wife would say it’s ‘the bike’ but with 2 young kids, Woody the working cocker and a business it’s a busy but an extremely enjoyable mix.
Senior Mortgage and Business Protection Adviser
Experience: Zoe has 18 years’ experience working for two major UK financial services providers before working with Cornerstone. She is experienced in advising clients on mortgages, life insurance and specialises in business protection. Zoe is very skilled in understanding the needs of her clients, building financial solutions, and presenting those solutions in a professional, literate and understandable manner. She is open to discussing the financial needs of new and existing clients. Zoe is CeMap and Level 4 qualified and currently holds a Diploma for Financial Advisors. Interests and hobbies: A busy life keeps Zoe going, her priority is her 6-year-old son Rudy and maintaining her business. However, to let her hair down it’s all about the music. The piano is Zoe’s love, but she is a complete novice, if she had time to practise who knows she could be ok! Gigs and family feasts are her things. Travel like most of us, of course, is an absolute must. Zoe has travelled the world in her younger years, and she can’t wait until Rudy is old enough to do some backpacking with his Mum, but she won’t hold her breath! Essentially, she is about good ethics in life and work, its done her well this far.
Senior Commercial and Bridging Manager
Experience: With over 14 years of Highstreet Bank experience covering both Domestic & International Commercial Finance, as well as, 2.5 years within the Brokering Sector specialising in Bridging, Buy to Let, Commercial and Development finance. Matt has extensive knowledge of the industry and key elements of commercial funding to act as a one-stop-shop for yourselves and your clients. He prides himself on understanding your key requirements, assisting to build your proposal, to ensure that it is of the quality & strength required to meet the funders credit criteria, and offer an after credit approval service to drive through to completion by liaising with accountants, surveyors & solicitors with the minimum of fuss.
Interests and hobbies: Rugby (Being Welsh it is in the blood), football, scuba diving, holidays and being occupied by his son.
Commercial and Bridging Manager
Experience: Brad has packed a lot into his career so far and following his A-Levels he decided to continue his professional qualifications via the Chartered Institute of Insurers. He worked for 2 years as a Para-Planner for one of the leading financial services firms in Cardiff before transferring across to Cornerstone Finance where he is now an integral part of the Commercial and Bridging team.
Interests and hobbies: Brad has a range of interests and is a keen participant in both rugby and football. He is an active member of the local gymnasium and other interests include golf, sailing, music and socialising with friends and work colleagues. Brad can often be found visiting the home of football, White Hart Lane or watching his beloved Welsh national rugby team. He enjoys travelling and is a regular visitor to both Europe and North America.
Head of Finance
Experience: Anna worked for many years as a senior Sales and Marketing Manager for one of the World’s leading Medical Companies, Johnson & Johnson. Selling surgical devices and managing a multi-million pound territory by negotiating and undertaking strategic and tactical procurement decisions with the primary aim of improving patient well-being and recovery following significant surgery whilst reducing hospital costs.
Interest and hobbies: With two young children Anna is kept on her toes, but still find time to get to the gym and pop out for a regular run around the lanes where she lives. Anna loves spending time with her family and getting away to the cottage in Devon for breaks whenever she can. She secretly also loves her husband riding his bike.
Ken Davies ceMAP
Senior Mortgage Advisor
Experience: Ken has been a mortgage adviser for 20 years, and also has a background in construction and property development. Ken first started at Ashwood mortgage services in 1998 where he worked in a number of estate agencies, building up a successful client bank through customer referrals. He dealt with everything from simple cases to more complex cases. He has helped many people build successful property portfolios, with his construction and property knowledge he is well placed to advise on development schemes.
Ken says – “The job is great as you play a vital role helping people whether it is getting them on the property ladder or sourcing the best deals for our clients”
Interests and Hobbies: Ken gives up some of his spare time, to be a Business Mentor for small/medium and start-up to scale up Businesses. He enjoys Music and sport mainly rugby and spending quality time with his family and friends.
Trainee Mortgage Advisor
Experience: Joel is currently training as mortgage advisor helping with admin within the office whilst learning the ropes. He has a background in energy assessing and property services dealing with commercial and residential properties, therefore, the opportunity to train as a mortgage advisor was the next logical step for Joel.
Interests and Hobbies: Joel enjoys all types of sport mainly rugby, football and golf as well as socialising with family and friends.
Experience: Paige recently graduated with a Masters from the University of Glasgow before choosing to work for Cornerstone Finance where she started her career in finance. She is currently a qualified mortgage and protection adviser, specialising in residential and buy-to-let mortgages.
Interests and hobby’s: Paige has many interests across a variety of subjects, not least including politics, literature and music. She loves to hike and travel, her favourite memory so far is when she climbed Kilimanjaro at the age of 20 and she is currently looking for her next big adventure!
Mortgage and Protection Advisor
Experience: In 1996 Paul gained a B.Ed Physical Education degree at Trinity College and consequently worked as a primary school teacher for the next 18 years. In 2014, he decided to change his career and enter into the world of Financial Services. Paul thought this move would give him the opportunity to use and develop the skills he has acquired over the years and set him new challenges that would motivate and drive him forward on a daily basis. Paul gained the CeMAP 1, 2 & 3 qualification in 2014 and worked under Imperial Wealth Management for the following 2 years. In October 2016, Paul moved company to Cornerstone Finance where he has continued to develop his skills and understanding in the field of mortgage and protection. He continues to work with dedication, determination and enthusiasm whilst displaying the commitment required when helping clients achieve their goals and ambitions.
Interests and hobbies: Paul believes in the saying ’healthy body, healthy mind’ and as a result, he engages in a number of physical activities. These include absorbing gym sessions,
Senior Mortgage & Protection Adviser
Experience: Sam is a very experienced mortgage and protection specialist. Sam started his career with a local mortgage company approximately 8 years ago. He then progressed and moved to one of South Wales leading IFA practices. Here he excelled and quickly progressed to Office Manager and Senior Mortgage Adviser before focussing solely on mortgage and protection which he has been doing for the past 6 years. He then decided to join Cornerstone Finance as one of our Senior Mortgage & Protection advisers. His knowledge of lenders and the mortgage process is unrivalled. He always ensures his customer journey is a smooth one and as a result receives a lot of repeat business.
Interest and hobbies: Sam enjoys many things away from work but none more so than cars, the gym and spending time with his partner, family and friends. He is also a keen skier and is passionate about Welsh rugby. In and around Cowbridge he frequents a few local pubs and always enjoys a beer or wine.
After graduating with a BA Hons in dance, Charlotte decided to change her focus and pursue a career in the financial services sector. After spending 12 months undertaking all forms of paraplanning and administration with a Cardiff based company she decided to join the team at Cornerstone Finance to progress her career further. Charlotte is extremely organised and always strives to achieve the highest of standards in everything she undertakes. She is an integral part of the Cornerstone team providing dedicated support to the team of advisers. Away from work Charlotte loves spending time with her family, her partner and her puppy. She enjoys both modern and classic dance, music, skiing and countryside walks.
Mortgage & Protection Adviser
Ted graduated from Cardiff University in 2017 with a degree in Economics and has a strong background in finance having spent time at RBS during his university career.
Besides his qualifications in mortgage advice, Ted has also achieved his diploma in regulated financial planning and certificate in discretionary investment management.
In his spare time, Ted runs a family farming business and plays golf on a semi-regular basis.
Mortgage & Protection Adviser
Experience: Alex is a fully qualified mortgage and protection adviser who also holds a Diploma for Financial Advisors from the London Institute of Banking and Finance. Having previously worked as a school teacher for 4 years in Pontypool he took a change of direction in April 2018 into the world of Financial Services. He also works as a paraplanner at one of South Wales’ leading IFA practices where he is progressing to become a fully independent financial adviser.
Alex has a great drive and passion for what he does and is very good at identifying the needs of his clients and advising on the best course of action for them.
Hobbies & Interests: Outside of work Alex has a passion for sport and music and loves nothing more than a live rock band in a pub on a Saturday night!
He is a season ticket holder at Cardiff City and outside of this he enjoys spending time with and travelling with his family and friends.
Senior Mortgage & Protection Adviser
Experience: Emily has been a successful mortgage & protection adviser over the past 16 years within the Banking industry winning sales adviser of year in 2017 for her extreme efforts and hardworking attitude . She is extremely very proud of the vast number of clients she has helped over the years, either helping them to buy a new home, enabling them to invest in property or advising them to protect them and their family against loss of income or in the event of a death or critical illness. She is a thoroughly dedicated individual and is always happy to go above and beyond as a part of her service.
Interests and hobbies: Emily has been married since for the past 14 years. She and her husband have 2 very busy daughters who are extremely dedicated to their love of swimming. Whilst most of her time is sat by the side of a swimming pool, her main interest is traveling. She has a long bucket list of countries/cities that she would like to visit before the age of 50 which she is working her way through but is still a long way off yet!!
Business Development Director
Experience : Phil has worked in Financial Services for over 30 years and held Senior Management positions with several large UK based Financial Institutions, He started out with Pearl Assurance as a sales agent , progressed to sales manager and branch manager running teams that were successful on a national level and winning the title of National Sales Manager of the year, He moved on from there to work for Personal Touch Financial Services a national financial services network where he held roles as Regional Sales Manager, National Account Manager and National Acquisitions Manager qualifying for five consecutive overseas sales conventions . Phil’s management style is that of a coach and mentor and loves nothing more than the challenge of building successful teams
Hobbies: include volunteering to help his local Rugby club to provide the opportunity and facilities for over 300 Men,Women,Boys and Girls from age 6 to adult to play rugby union, Improve their social skills and make life long friends, He also enjoys Travelling
Family: Phil Has been married for 32 years and has two adult Children
After leaving school, Sophie decided to take the time to move close to London and complete an apprenticeship in Business Administration. Through this experience, Sophie learnt the general skills needed to work in any office environment while also getting the chance to engage with a wide network of C-Level Executives. Once completing the qualifications and returning to Cardiff, the opportunity to work with Cornerstone Finance and begin her journey in the financial sector was brought about. Out of work, Sophie continues to improve on playing the guitar and would one day like to learn bass. Other pass times include spending time with family and friends and participating in different outdoor activities.
